Mamma Mia, here we go again..! Fans are going wild over ABBA's latest announcement that they will be dropping a new album called Voyage.
The infamous Swedish pop band had their last public performance in 1982. The talented foursome, comprised of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, sang "Thank You For The Music" from their fifth album The Album.
Speaking about the band's break in February 2017, Andersson was reported saying, "Things were happening in real life too, not just in [our] working life." The band was comprised of two couples, Fältskog and Ulvaeus, and Lyngstad and Andersson. They began to grow apart and eventually got divorced, resulting in the bandmates going their separate ways. Andersson went on to say, "At first we still worked together though because we knew what we had." The performer then went on to find work as a composer and producer, eventually working on the Mamma Mia! movie — a jukebox musical using ABBA's works.
However, fans were in for a big surprise after the band announced that they will be reuniting for a new album called Voyage which will be released on November 5. The album will also be accompanied by a tour experience which is a live tour that will feature the bandmates as holographic performers.
On the ABBA website, they wrote, "Join us for a concert 40 years in the making. A concert that combines the old and new, the young and not-so-young. A concert that has brought all four of us together again." They continued to describe the exclusive event writing, "ABBA Voyage is the long-awaited concert from one of the biggest pop acts of all time. See ABBA's avatars accompanied by a 10-piece live band, in a custom-built arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London."
Sharing the news to their social media, ABBA posted a slideshow of quotes from the four bandmates describing their reunion. The band captioned the post, "In our own words. Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid."
While this news excited everybody, given that ABBA has been a pop culture icon for ages, the Mamma Mia! community was particularly touched. Twitter was instantly flooded with memes and mentions of the iconic movie and musical.
One fan wrote, "If the new ABBA music is sci-fi themed then the 3rd Mamma Mia movie can be set in SPACE."
Another expressed, "I wonder how the people from the mamma mia cinematic universe feel about new ABBA music."
A third chimed in with, "New ABBA means at least ten more Mamma Mia films and I do not think there is anything wrong with that. A 120 year old Christine Baranski singing with Colin Firth dancing in the background with a walking frame."
It's certain that ABBA was welcomed back to the Internet World with open arms, especially by their waves of Mamma Mia! fans.
