Victoria and David Beckham have been relationship goals since the '90s. Their son Brooklyn and his new wife, Nicola Peltz may be following in their footsteps, but for fans, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don't even come close to the Spice Girl-football star match.

That doesn't mean the couple hasn't had issues, though. According to People Magazine's source, "over the years, Victoria fought hard for her marriage, and for David." Here's a closer look at their relationship.

How Did Victoria & David Beckham Meet?

According to Us Weekly, the two first met in 1997 during a charity football match at the Manchester United players' lounge. In 2016, Victoria described the encounter as "love at first sight" in a letter to herself for British Vogue. "Love at first sight does exist," she wrote. "It will happen to you in the Manchester United players' lounge – although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy. While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family."

She continued: "(He's not even in the first team at this stage – you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile. You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you. He's going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it.)" By 1998, the two were engaged. "It's lovely, it's a surprise, as well," Posh Spice said of her engagement ring at the time.

That same year, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child, Brooklyn. Back then, the singer's bandmate, Mel B revealed that Victoria "had a really tough time" with her pregnancy. "She was running off the stage to go vomit," said Scary Spice in an interview with The Meredith Viera Show in September 2014. The pair welcomed their son on March 4, 1999.

Inside Victoria & David Beckham's Marriage

Three months after giving birth to Brooklyn, Victoria walked down the aisle at Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin. The fashion designer wore a gold tiara and a Vera Wang gown that had a 20-foot train while the soccer player wore all-white tuxes. During their reception, the two wore matching purple outfits. Three years into the marriage, David announced that they were expecting baby number two. "This year has been such an exciting year for us — England are in the World Cup finals, Victoria's had a second top 10 hit and now we are expecting a new baby," they said in a joint statement in February 2002.

Six months after the announcement, the couple welcomed a second son, Romeo James. "He looks like Brooklyn," the athlete told reporters outside Portland Hospital in London. "He's got Brooklyn's nose and Victoria's chin." In 2003, the family relocated to Spain after David was transferred from his Manchester United team to Real Madrid. That same year, the couple faced rumors of infidelity after the My World author was photographed with a mystery woman in a Madrid nightclub.

It was later revealed that she was his assistant, Rebecca Loos whose brother, John Charles told Daily Mail at the time: "She has confirmed to me she had an affair with David." David denied the claims, saying he's "very happily married" and that he has "a wonderful wife and two very special kids." He added that "there is nothing any third party can do to change these facts." The following year, Victoria announced that she was pregnant for a third time. They welcomed another baby boy named Cruz on February 21, 2005. They welcomed a fourth baby, six years later. This time, a baby girl named Harper Seven.

Why Victoria Beckham Had To Fight For Her Marriage To David Beckham

In 2018, as the couple marked their 19th wedding anniversary, a source told People that though Victoria denied divorce rumors at the time, she did fight for her marriage over the years. "Over the years, Victoria has fought hard for her marriage, and for David," claimed the insider. "She never gave up when someone else might have." Back then, the singer also opened up about the work she puts into balancing her career and her marriage to David.

"I try really, really hard. I try hardest to be the best mother," she said at the Forbes Women's Summit in New York City that year. "I am trying to be the best wife and the best professional. When I get home I try to put the phone down and spend time with the children and spend time with David."

Well, it obviously paid off as fast-forward to 2022, and the couple just celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary by going on a trip all over Europe. "They say he isn't funny, they say I never smile, they said it wouldn't last [laughing face emoji]," Victoria wrote via Instagram on July 4. "Today we celebrate 23 years being married. David you are my everything, I love you so much!!!!"
