We all have regrets in life. For actors, it might mean a role that they would not do it again, even if they became famous and received millions for it in the past. Viola Davis, for example, explained why she is not a fan of The Help, even if the critics still love it. And she is not alone. Many actors talked about roles they are not proud of, and each one has a different reason.
Most of them talk about it years later, but others don't hold back while still involved in the project. Curious? Keep scrolling and discover the regrets some A-list stars have in their careers.
10 Viola Davis - The Help
Viola Davis received an Academy Award for her role as Aibileen Clark in The Help. The actress doesn't have a problem with her character, but in how they told the story. During an interview with The New York Times, the actress said that the team was great, but she had some problems with the plot. "I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn't the voices of the maids that were heard," she said.
When the movie was released, there was a lot of controversy because a privileged white girl told the story about racism. "I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie," she added.
9 Idris Elba - The Wire
Idris Elba became a household name for his role in The Wire, but it doesn't mean he is proud of it. The actor was surprised when he saw people loved his character, DCI John Luther. "Are we idolizing a smart drug dealer or a dumb narcotics dealer? What are we saying here? Is it OK to pump a community full of heroin, but because you're smart at it, that makes you cool? That was a problem for me," he once said in a podcast.
It seems that Elba had no problems with the character itself, but with how people perceived him as someone cool.
8 Zoe Saldana - Nina
Zoe Saldana was the most recent actress who expressed her regrets about a movie. Back in 2016, she starred Nina, a biopic about Nina Simone. Since the moment Saldana was cast, there were critics who said that she didn't resemble the singer at all, and her features and skin color are different from Simone. The critics hated the movie itself, as well.
This year, Zoe Saldana spoke about it and said that "I should have done everything in my power to cast a Black woman to play an exceptionally perfect Black woman."
7 Robert Pattinson - Twilight
Robert Pattison became rich and famous thanks to the Twilight movies. But the actor doesn't seem to be grateful to the movie franchise. "It's weird kind of representing something you don't particularly like," he once told Squire.
Weeks after the interview, the actor said again that he didn't like the movies. We hope he enjoys playing Batman more since it is another blockbuster film.
6 Michelle Pfeiffer - Grease II
Michele Pfeiffer was beginner actress when she was cast to star Grease II, and the sequel didn't just disappoint fans, the actress didn't like it either. "I hated that film with a vengeance and could not believe how bad it was," she said.
After the movie failed in every way, her career suffered, and she struggled to get good roles again. The actress would return in the brilliant Scarface, and the public forgot about her previous failure.
5 Ryan Reynolds - Green Lantern
Being cast to play a superhero today is a dream for many actors. But years ago, they could harm the career of anyone involved in them. Ryan Reynolds played the Green Lantern, and he hates it so much that he never watched it. The actor said the studios were more worried about releasing the movie than in making something good.
"It also fell victim to the process in Hollywood, which is like poster first, release date second, script last. At the time, it was a huge opportunity for me, so I was excited to try and take part in it."
4 Christopher Plummer - The Sound Of Music
The Sound of Music might be one of the best movies of all time, but Christopher Plummer didn't like it. The actor, who played Captain von Trapp, hated it so much that he used to call it The Sound of Mucus.
He once said that "it was so awful and sentimental and gooey. You had to work terribly hard to try and infuse some minuscule bit of humor into it." Critics disagreed with Plummer, and it received five Oscars.
3 Charlize Theron - Reindeer Games
Reindeer Games was not the brightest moment in Charlize Theron's career, and she is aware of this. During an interview, she talked about it and said, "Reindeer Games. That was a bad, bad, bad movie."
Theron also said that she wasn't lying to herself and knew it would not be something great, but she wanted to work with John Frankenheimer, and that is why she accepted the role.
2 Sean Connery - James Bond
Sean Connery is the best James Bond of all time, according to the fans of the British detective. The character also made him famous and wealthy, but he wasn't happy to play it.
During an interview, he said that when you remove all the exotic touches, James Bond is just a "dull, prosaic English policeman." The actor also said that he was tired of playing the character.
1 George Clooney - Batman & Robin
George Clooney is another A-list star who has added a superhero franchise to his portfolio, and it is probably the biggest regret of his career. When he starred in Batman & Robin, critics were not kind to him, and at some point, he was concerned it would damage his career forever.
It didn't, but we can't say the same about Chris O'Donnell, who played Robin. Years later, Clooney apologized to fans for ruining Batman. It is definitely not a role he would try again.
