Having been on multiple hit shows, Kaley Cuoco is a star that millions are familiar with. She's best known for The Big Bang Theory, one of the biggest sitcoms of all time. She's done plenty of work since then, including The Flight Attendant.
That show's second season had an uneven reception, but it teased a potential third season coming down the line. On the show, Cuoco has been brilliant, and she is able to accurately portray her character's battle with alcoholism. In fact, she's so convincing, that people have wondered whether she's actually drinking on set.
We have the truth behind this below!
Kaley Cuoco Has Quite The Resume
During the 1990s, Kaley Cuoco made her way into the entertain industry looking to establish herself as a star. It would take some time, but eventually, the right opportunities presented themselves, and Cuoco would turn into one of the most successful TV stars of all time.
In 2002, the acres secured a lead role on 8 Simple Rules, which ran for 3 seasons and nearly 80 episodes. Despite being a success, the series was cut short after its ratings were impacted by the loss of John Ritter.
From there, Cuoco had a brief stint on Charmed, which made for another hit show. She wasn't around long, but once her time on the show concluded, she elevated her career quickly.
The Big Bang Theory came knocking in 2007, and it's one of the biggest sitcoms of all time. This turned Cuoco into an undeniable star, and it also gave her another massive hit to add to her list of credits.
These days, the actress has several irons in the fire, including Harley Quinn for DC, and The Flight Attendant for HBO Max.
'The Flight Attendant' Is A Big Hit
November 2020 signaled the debut of The Flight Attendant. The series was Kaley Cuoco's first major television work since The Big Bang Theory, and as you'd imagine, there was a lot of anticipation for the show to come out on HBO Max.
The thriller looked like a completely different type of project for Cuoco, who had primarily found success in the sitcom genre earlier in her carer. Despite the difference, The Flight Attendant has continued to prove that it's a quality show, and so far, there have been two successful seasons to hit HBO Max.
The show has been well-received, something that Cuoco was thankful for, as she knew that people would either love it or hate it.
"There are no words for that. I took a risk with this, so many years ago. I found the book. I was coming off a sitcom that everyone knew me from, and I thought, “Okay, this is my new venture, and I’m either gonna be accepted, and they’re going to like it, or I’m going down with the ship because this is gonna be all my fault.” And I couldn’t believe how much people accepted it and loved it," she told Collider.
Now that the show's been a hit, fans are starting to ask more questions about what went into making the series so believable. This includes the drinking that takes place on screen.
Was She Really Drinking On The Show?
Kaley Cuoco's Flight Attendant character certainly has battles with alcoholism on the show, leading some to wonder whether the actress herself was actually drinking.
She addressed this in an interview with People.
"It was all water which was great because I definitely got my water intake every day, but I had to pee every second! That was the other problem that came with it. We had to take so many five-minute breaks 'because Kaley has to pee again.' It was a lot of water, yeah," the said.
It should be obvious that the actress would not be taking in alcohol while filming her scenes, but actors have gone to extreme lengths to heighten a performance.
Anna Kendrick, for instance, talked about drinking while filming to Vulture.
"During a scene at the bar, they gave me fake beer, but then during a scene where I’m playing cards with Jake, they gave me real beer, and I didn’t realize it! And so every time I lost, I was pounding beer, and I didn’t realize it was real until halfway through the take. I was like, I’m super drunk right now," she said.
Kaley Cuoco might not have been drinking while filming The Flight Attendant, but she was still believable as the character she was playing. That's just good old-fashioned acting there.
