"Speidi" rose to fame when they appeared in 2006's The Hills on MTV. Although she appeared as a recurring cast member of Laguna Beach, their relationship came to the forefront on The Hills.

Heidi's relationship with Spencer became a focal point of the show after it ended her friendship with Lauren Conrad. Although the couple found fame on The Hills, they have been a mainstay on reality TV for over two decades.

The couple married in April 2009 and have two children together. Over their years of fame, they have caused numerous controversies and have become some of reality TV's most notorious characters. • After just two days in the jungle, they refused to take part in a trial that saw celebs dumped into a basin of water and bugs.
• They proceeded to threaten to quit and refuse to do trials during their time on the show.

At one point, according to the Mirror, the famous couple declared they were "the most famous people in the world" and "too rich and famous" to stay in the jungle. The couple admitted they only returned to the camp because they were "committed to competing for their respective charities".

"This cast is devaluing our fame right now. I'm sitting next to VH1 comedians that I have never even seen before... I thought it was gonna be all celebrities. Stars of shows get treated like stars. Don't throw me in the jungle and try to make me your little guinea pig torture act," Access Hollywood quotes him telling NBC's head of programming, per Digital Spy.

Their entitled behavior was not appreciated by NBC's head of reality programming, Paul Telegdy, who allegedly called the couple "everything that's wrong with America" and labeled them "insincere, lazy, entitled."

Celebrity Big Brother (Season 11, 2013)

In January 2013, Heidi and Spencer competed as a single entity on the eleventh season of the British version of Celebrity Big Brother, where they became that season's villains. They came runners-up to their rival in the house, British TV personality and presenter Rylan.

During their time on the show, Speidi became the most hated couple in the UK. The Daily Mail notes how their antics turned them into iconic reality TV villains. They refused to participate in tasks, forced their housemates to lose out on prizes, and acted like they were above the show.

According to the British media, the Celebrity Big Brother bosses were forced to increase security around the couple after the audience turned against them.

They would compete again in Season 19, an all-star season of the British reality show. They once again upset their housemates, who turned against them. They got into a heated argument with actor James Cosmo and hid bottles of water, leading to an argument with Austin Armacost, which resulted in him being removed from the living room. The Sun reports they were the eighth contestants to leave the show.

Speidi: Scandals, Secrets, and Surgery was a 2013 Channel 5 documentary that followed the highs and lows of the couple's career. Spencer Pratt admitted that he signed up to do the documentary with the network as they treated him and Heidi Montag so well during their time on Celebrity Big Brother. The docu-series covered their plastic surgery, bankruptcy, and their marriage.

"It has the first interview with my mum in the history of media, with my older sister and little sister and my Nana, so I think it has some really major exclusive footage."

In After Shock: Heidi & Spencer, the couple took audiences inside their reality façade. The one-off E! special showed how the reality stars "have always been in really manipulated circumstances like on The Hills and Big Brother."

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt appeared on Season 3 of Celebrity Wife Swap, trading places with seven-time Olympic medalist Amanda Beard and her husband Sacha Brown. Their appearance was well received, allowing the couple to shake their reality TV villain title.
