Many people are already very aware of public figure Joe Rogan. Since starting "The Joe Rogan Podcast," Joe has become an extremely well-known host, with millions of listeners each month.

Prior to his podcast fame, however, Joe went through a series of other jobs. Even those who regularly tune into his episodes may not know about these strange gigs that he used to have.

Joe Hoped To Be A Professional Athlete

Before his days as the host of the reality TV show Fear Factor, Joe hoped to find fame from a different route. He actually has a long past as a martial artist, and eventually he got into kickboxing. From there, it seems that he hoped to spin his experience into a career as a professional kickboxer.

While Joe today maintains an interest in professional fighting — especially in UFC, where he's worked as a commentator — being the one is the ring was not in store for him. Due to injuries and headaches that he sustained as a result of fighting, he eventually had to hang up his gear for good.

Today, however, Joe still keeps up with Glory, a well-known kickboxing organization. He shared how he wished that the group was even more popular than it is:

Glory is amazing, man. Glory does not get the respect that it deserves. I'm a giant fan. I watch all of the Glory fights.

Joe Worked Under A Private Investigator

After making the pivot from competitive sports, Joe headed in an entirely new direction: working for a private investigator. The investigator in question was a man named Dave Dolan, who found himself in a unique position. Because he'd previously been issued a DUI, Dave was unable to drive himself around, and so Joe quickly became his assistant.

Though the work for the PI was short-lived, Joe still stayed busy after that, going on to become a fairly successful standup comedian. Before making it big-time, some of his gigs were slightly unorthodox, with performances held at bachelor parties or even at strip clubs.

It seems that performing may run in his family's blood, as Joe also has a very famous connection. It turns out that his cousin is actually a famous musician: My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way.

Joe did clarify, however, that the two weren't actually in contact with one another:

Yeah, we are related. I don't know him, but we are cousins.

Given that Joe has worn so many different hats over the years, one wouldn't be surprised if he eventually pivoted to something else once his podcast comes to a close.
