With Halloween just around the corner, there’s no better time to make some popcorn, get comfy, and watch some spooky movies. There are thousands of options to choose from. Whether it’s an old-time slasher classic like Friday the 13th or a brand-new horror masterpiece like Jordan Peele’s Nope, there’s a special kind of horror movie for everyone. If you are into killer dolls, you won’t want to miss the premiere of M3GAN. Directed by Gerard Johnstone, this horror movie stars a robotic doll that's programmed to be any child's greatest friend, that is, until she goes on a killing spree. Ever since the movie’s first trailer came out, the internet can’t stop talking about M3GAN.
First, this killer doll became a meme because of her dancing moves. But, most recently, fans can’t stop talking about her social media feud with another fan-favorite creepy doll, Chucky. And believe it or not, internet users can’t get enough of this feud.
Chucky Is The All-Time Fan-Favorite Killer Doll
It’s no doubt that John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) was a revolutionary installment in the slasher movie genre, introducing all-time favorite tropes like the concept of the “final girl” to the horror film genre. But, Don Mancini’s Child’s Play (1988) was also a great addition to the slasher genre. Before Chucky, it was hard to believe that dolls could be that scary.
Although Child’s Play wasn’t the first horror movie to use dolls as scary monsters, there was something so simple, yet so compelling about the idea of a serial killer trapped in the body of an innocent-looking doll. It’s no wonder the first installment of the Child’s Play franchise was a huge success. According to Box Office Mojo, the first movie alone grossed more than $44 million worldwide.
Child’s Play soon became a popular franchise and Chucky would go on to appear in eight more movies from 1990 to 2019, including a not-so-great remake starring Aubrey Plaza. Most recently, Chucky got his own TV series, developed by SyFy, which proves Chucky is still a fan-favorite. Whether it’s because of his dark sense of humor or his bloodthirsty personality, fans just can’t get enough of this killer doll.
Since The First Trailer Premiered, The Internet Can’t Stop Talking About M3GAN
Although Blumhouse Production and Universal Studios’ upcoming movie, M3GAN, is not set to premiere till earlier next year, there are already thousands of Twitter users talking about it.
The movie follows Gemma (Allison Williams), an engineer and programmer who creates the perfect toy for her niece Cady (Violet McGraw): a life-like doll called M3GAN. As the trailer suggests, this creepy-looking robotic doll is willing to do anything to protect the child she is bonded to.
As soon as the trailer came out, fans have been obsessing over this new killer doll. First, Twitter users started comparing M3GAN to other popular creepy dolls such as Chucky and Annabelle. Then, M3GAN’s dance moves and running form became a viral meme.
Most recently, M3GAN took to Twitter to respond to all the hype the trailer of her movie received. The killer doll tweeted in response to comments from Regal Theaters, Megan Thee Stallion, and the founder and SEO of the Blumhouse production company, Jason Blum. And, while she was at it, she decided to start a fight with everyone’s favorite killer doll, Chucky.
Chucky VS M3GAN: The Battle Of The Killer Dolls On Twitter
Believe it or not, these popular killer dolls have their own Twitter accounts: @ChuckyIsReal and @meetM3GAN. Their feud started when Chucky retweeted the trailer of M3GAN with the caption “everybody’s tryna be me”. In response to Chucky’s call-out post, M3GAN tweeted “u Know u that doll when u cause all this conversation,” along with a GIF of her taking off her sunglasses.
After that, Chucky tweeted “word to the wise: don’t fk with the chuck,” to which the other doll responded with “lol Chucky plss”. M3GAN also rescinded to another unrelated tweet from the redhead killer doll referencing a Blink-182 song.
Other viral tweets in this feud include a tweet from Chucky comparing his and M3GAN’s dance moves and a tweet from M3GAN calling him out while referencing Nicki Minaj's "Miley, What's Good?" meme.
One thing that’s clear is that these killer dolls clearly know their audience well. Their short-lived feud became viral in no time. With fans divided over whom to root for. And who knows, maybe we’ll get to see M3GAN and Chucky on the big screen together in the future. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time two horror legends get pitted against each other, just remember the Jason vs Michael short film.
