In 2021, Bravo released a Summer House spinoff called Winter House. Instead of the famous group of friends gathering in a big house in the Hamptons, they would go for a winter holiday in a ski cabin located in Vermont and Colorado. On top of having Summer House cast members, the series also had cast members from Southern Charm, Vanderpump Rules, and new faces sprinkled throughout as the series carried on.
The spin-off was a fun crossover between the Bravo series as it was interesting watching cast members from other shows interacting. After three seasons of laughter, drama, and themed parties, the reality TV show quietly stopped appearing, but why?
Bravo Placed Winter House On 'Pause'
In February 2024, People reported that Winter House was placed on "pause" by the network. Fans of the series worried that the show was canceled when they didn't see their favorite Bravolebs filming in the winter. On the flip side, many assumed there were filming conflicts, with Southern Charm filming at the same time Winter House would film. Furthering their fears, Paige DeSorbo told her Instagram followers with a meme that the series was canceled after three seasons, “Me at Winter House even though it’s canceled."
However, a source close to the series rebutted Paige's words, saying, "It's definitely not canceled."

The term "pause" was made popular on Bravo in 2020 after Housewife Dorinda Medley told audiences that she wasn't fired from The Real Housewives of New York, she was placed on "pause." This means Dorinda wasn't fired and was welcomed back on the series, but needed some time away from the franchise to work on herself.
Many Housewives joked that Dorinda was fired but couldn't admit her fate, so she told everyone she was on pause to make herself feel better. However, according to Reality Tea, Andy Cohen cleared the air and agreed that Dorinda was placed on pause while on Watch What Happens Live. Dorinda demanded he clear the air after getting ridiculed online, and he responded, “I said we are putting you on pause.”
While most Housewives are fired from their position on the series after poor performances or seasons, Dorinda was different. Since Dorinda's time off the show, Bravo famously uses the term for shows and cast members — including Winter House.
Will Winter House Come Back?
In 2023, the Chairman of NBCUniversal, Frances Berwick, told Variety, "In my heart of hearts, I believe we will bring [Winter House] back at some point."
The businessman continued, "You have to have patience. That show was so multi-generational — those people just were completely authentic. They grew up together. That’s the reason we wanted some of the cast here [at BravoCon 2023]: We wanted that to feel that connection and keep the relationships."
As for why the series was canceled, Frances alluded the series didn't have the right cast. For the cast members that Seasons 1-3 had, viewership should have been, theoretically, higher. "It wasn’t a big enough show, and we didn’t have the right lead-ins."
Season 2's average viewership was 395,555 compared to Season 3's 440,000, according to TV Deets.
Did Season 3 Of Winter House Lose Its Way?
While beloved, some Bravo fans felt Winter House lost its way by Season 3. The series originally had cast members from Summer House and Southern Charm (along with a few new faces), but by the time Season 3 rolled around, the series seemed too overproduced — too chaotic. There were no longer characters from just Southern Charm and Summer House — cast members from other popular Bravo shows like, Vanderpump Rules, Below Deck, and Family Karma joined the series.
One fan on Reddit felt Winter House lost its "identity." The Redditor admired how Seasons 1 and 2 focused on already-established friendships and relationships in the same household. By Season 3, there were too many new faces and storylines to follow. "This [season], it just felt like a mishmash of random people without the prior relationships and dynamics that made the first two seasons so successful," they wrote.
With Kyle Cooke's [Summer House] familial connection to Stowe, Vermont, and his friendship with the entire cast, he and his wife Amanda Batula felt like the show's core. The couple were the nucleus of the group. As time passed, however, new storylines, chaotic drama, and new faces overshadowed their friendship with the house.
Beloved Bravo couple Paige DeSorbo and Craig Conover started dating after getting to know each other on Winter House. The pair broke up at the end of 2024.
Considering Frances Berwick (Chairman of NBCUniversal) told Variety that the series didn't have the right leads, Bravo could have missed the mark by adding too many faces from popular network shows. Sometimes, too many popular faces doesn't mean a standout series. Instead, it can seem manipulated.
If the making of Season 4 of Winter House eventually does make its way to Bravo, Bravo needs to focus on a group of pre-existing friends who are well-known in the Bravosphere, or they can circle back to the cast from Season 1. The art of having a reality show with a group of friends who already have a history is the bread and butter of Bravo.
