After starring with Tom Cruise in the box-office-topping sequel Top Gun: Maverick, Monica Barbaro seems to be on a roll. The actress may have made quite a name for herself in television over the years, including in Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise and The Good Cop. Nonetheless, Top Gun: Maverick is, by far, her biggest (and most physically intense) project yet. Not to mention, playing fighter jet pilot Lt. Natasha 'Phoenix' Trace certainly helped raise her profile in Hollywood.Following her work on the film, Barbaro has been incredibly busy. So far, she’s landed other film roles and is set to return to television too. At the same time, the actress also got some new representation.
After Top Gun: Maverick Monica Barbaro Signed With A New Management Company
Range Media Partners has been seen as an industry disruptor from day one, with the firm formed following the exit of several agents from high-profile agencies, some of which represented the likes of Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie, Emilia Clarke, Michael Bay, and Tiffany Haddish. And now, Range Media Partners has also signed Barbaro.
“Monica is an extraordinary talent, which the world is quickly discovering in this exciting moment,” the company’s Chelsea McKinnies said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to join forces alongside her and her existing team as Monica continues her exceptional work both in front of the camera as well as behind it. A true creative force in many areas, Monica has a number of producorial projects in development that we could not be prouder to support and nurture.”
Monica Barbaro Is Set To Star In A Netflix Series With Arnold Schwarzenegger
Back in April, it was announced that Barbaro would be starring opposite Schwarzenegger in Netflix’s new spy drama, which is using the working title Utap.
The streamer made an eight-episode order of the show back in 2021.
At the heart of the story are a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter (Barbaro) whose work as CIA operatives eventually takes a toll on their relationship.
And while Barbaro is not allowed to say anything about the project (“It’s all very much under wraps…”), the actress revealed that she’s remained in touch with Cruise while working on it.
“Last week, I was talking to Tom about [a] scene and asking him some questions and he was like, ‘Oh yeah, here’s what I know about things like that,’” she recalled.
“We can always reach out to him, which is incredible.”
As for working with the Terminator star for the first time, Barbaro remarked, “He’s obviously done so many things and he’s already done this action-comedy space, which is really specific and more of what we’re going forward with in the show. It’s supposed to be fun. I’m just excited to see it.”
And while both Cruise and Schwarzenegger are action stars, they each have a unique approach to their work, as Barbaro has come to discover.
“The two of them work so differently in their own ways and are great in their own right,” the actress explained.
“It’s just really fun to get to see people you’ve been watching for so many years—to not only meet them, but to get to work with them and see what makes them tick and see how they operate.”
Meanwhile, aside from the spy series, Barbaro is also voicing for the Netflix anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. The voice cast also includes several Army of the Dead stars such as Tig Notaro, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, and Dave Bautista.
They are also joined by Vanessa Hudgens, Christian Slater, and The Witcher star Anya Chalotra.
Monica Barbaro Has Also Been Working On Several Film Projects Since Top Gun: Maverick
Following Top Gun: Maverick, Barbaro also landed several other big-screen roles.
These include the biopic I'm Charlie Walker starring Mike Colter as construction and trucking businessman Charlie Walker who rose to success amidst the racial discrimination he dealt with in San Francisco back in 1971.
At the same time, Barbaro also stars in Paramount Plus’ upcoming rom-com At Midnight where she plays the female lead opposite Diego Boneta.
The film tells the story of two people who are trying their best not to fall for each other. And although details of the film are scarce for now, Barbaro teases there is some dancing happening in the movie.
Aside from these, the actress also revealed that she aims to do a bit more dancing moving forward as it is a longtime passion of hers (she used to be a dancer too). As it turns out, she’s even developing a dance-centered movie.
“I’m bringing it all back because I realized I’m not getting any younger, Barbaro remarked. “So if there’s a time to break out my dancing, it should be before it’s too late.”
So far, no release dates have been set for At Midnight and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.
