Adrien Brody and Harvey Weinstein's ex-wife Georgina Chapman recently made their red carpet debut in New York for his new movie, Clean. But the two have actually been dating for over a year now. The actor has always been private about his relationships. Fans even forget that Elsa Pataky dated Adrien Brody before meeting Chris Hemsworth.
They went out for about two years, from 2006 to 2009, and even got engaged at some point. A year after they split, Pataky started dating Hemsworth. She married him just six months after they met. Some fans think it's quite the "upgrade," dumping The Pianist for Thor while some think that Brody certainly didn't deserve to be left just like that.
Come on, the Academy Award winner bought and renovated a castle for Pataky's 31st birthday. Of course, the exes seem to be happy in their own lives now, but many fans are still wondering what actually happened back there. Did she leave him? Was it a mutual decision? Nobody seems to know. But of all the women Adrien Brody dated, it was only Elsa Pataky with whom he was ever engaged.
Neither Party Released A Statement About The Split
When news broke out that Pataky and Brody had called it quits, neither of them made an official announcement. For years, the actors never spoke about the matter. What everyone just seems to know is that Pataky moved on too quickly to her now-husband Chris Hemsworth. But what most don't know is that in between these two major relationships, there was a "skeezy-yet-attractive" Frenchman who made the Detachment actor terribly heartbroken.
About two days after their split, Pataky jet off to Paris where she was spotted making out with French film actor and Kylie Minogue's ex Olivier Martinez. It was absolutely a bad look for the actress. There were even rumors that she went house-hunting with Martinez. Tabloids ruthlessly called out Pataky's "ungratefulness" for Brody's efforts for her and the relationship.
"Adrien Brody's Oscar-winning status seems to be no match for Olivier Martinez's Gallic charm! The Pianist star, 36, is brokenhearted that his girlfriend of two years, Elsa Pataky, is getting hot and heavy with the French stud," a source told Star Magazine in May 2009. "Adrien thought Elsa was The One, but she wasn’t ready to settle down. So he gave breathing room and thought she'd return to him." Ouch!
The Feelings Weren't Mutual But The Decision To Split Was
It's obvious that Adrien Brody was head over heels for his Giallo co-star. He spent a full year renovating the Stone Barn Castle in Vienna, New York just for her. They even did an exclusive 35-page spread for Hello Magazine featuring cheesy photos of them in the castle. The Oscar winner really wanted it to be their home. Sadly, Pataky didn't feel the same way. Sources close to the couple revealed that she'd always seen him more as a "friend." When it was made clear, the two naturally decided to call it off.
But what's truly shocking back then was how the Spanish beauty's relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe star escalated so quickly. "As soon as she had the house, she left him for [Actor 2]. A couple of months later, she traded up to [Actor 3] and got him to marry her six months later," Blind Gossip wrote. "Actor 1 is an Oscar winning actor. Actor 2 went on to marry an Oscar-winning actress. Actor 3 is part of an acting family."
Actor 1 is obviously Adrien Brody who won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2003 for his performance in The Pianist. Actor 2 is Olivier Martinez who was married to Academy Award winner Halle Berry from 2013 to 2016. Actor 3 is none other than Australian actor Chris Hemsworth. "Our actress plowed through all three of them in one year," the gossip blog said.
Adrien Brody Doesn't Regret Buying The Castle
Imagine how it must have hurt for Brody to see all that work in the castle go to waste. Well, at least at that time. The Stone Barn Castle eventually became the actor's private residence. He also gave people an intimate glimpse of his home in the 2015 movie Stone Barn Castle. "I think what this shows is a very introspective, authentic, and honest portrayal of a man with a dream who goes and fulfills his dream," Brody said about showing his seven-year journey of renovating the castle following his split with Pataky.
"I've taken all the other complex elements of my life out of that, and I'm willing to share that as an artistic endeavor," Brody added. He also said that the film is a nice memoir for that period in his life where he learned from a lot of mistakes (ooh, shady). But seriously, in the end, the actor fulfilled his dream of building his dre01am castle while Elsa Pataky is now happily married with three beautiful kids. Everyone got their happy ending.
