Timothée Chalamet is undoubtedly a well-liked young actor. Following his breakout role in Call Me By Your Name co-starring the controversial Armie Hammer, the 25-year-old went on to star in more critically acclaimed films. He's also visited several late-night shows, graced magazine covers, and continues to steal the show in prestigious red carpet events with his statement style.
He's earned the title of "The Next Leonardo DiCaprio" from his fans, not only for his fame and talent but also his string of A-list ex-girlfriends. But aside from his looks and acting skills, the Gen Z favorite is mostly adored for his humility. A fan even revealed that he was once late to a movie premiere because he'd been interacting with his fans outside. His high school friends seem to agree. Here's everything they've said about the Dune star.
Everyone Knew He Would 'Be Something Big'
In a subreddit called Ask Me Anything, a user dished out on how Chalamet was like back in their high school days. Commenters were quick to ask if the actor had always been predicted to become a movie star. "He was a really nice guy," answered the Redditor who used to have the actor's number on their now-broken iPhone 6. "But anyone who knew him could tell you he was going to be something big like even in high school his performances were no joke."
When asked whether the French Dispatch star had always looked as gorgeous as he does now, the insider said: "I think he's definitely grown into his looks by now, whenever I knew him he was just super gangly." Still, the Oscar nominee "was always thought of as good looking," said the source who also lived in the same apartment as the actor.
'The Funniest Guy'
Chalamet has always seemed shy in interviews. He'd joke around but fans would always gush about his slightly awkward manner. So it's a little hard to see the real nature of the actor. However, according to the Redditor, the Little Women star was "probably the funniest guy I knew back then." They also said that he was "just all [around] a really talented confident dude."
'Everyone Loves Timmy'
Chalamet's popularity began way back in high school. "He was super popular at [LaGuardia High School]," wrote the insider. "And in our circle in general, everyone in our area knew of him." The Fault in Our Stars actor, Ansel Elgort also went to LaGuardia and echoed the same thoughts on the popularity of the Beautiful Boy actor. "Timothée was so popular," Elgort told MTV when asked who was more popular between him and Chalamet.
However, Chalamet said that Elgort was more popular because he "had a calendar with him in it." He also revealed that he "didn't get into them [musicals]" because the Baby Driver star was always the lead. "That's why all those rap videos are online because I was doing the talent show instead of the musicals," Chalamet added.
Of course, in a typical humble celebrity answer, Elgort insisted that The King star was REALLY more popular. "No one dislikes Timmy," he argued. "Some people just like me. Everyone loves Timmy." The two played in the same high school basketball team, went to the same science class, and owe their success to the same drama teacher, Harry Shifman.
Shifman fought for Chalamet's admission to LaGuardia after he was initially rejected. "It was already clear that [Timothée] was so interesting and gifted and compelling," Shifman told Vanity Fair. "I went to the principal…thank goodness the principal was responsive to me because I was very incensed that Timmy didn't get in."
A 'Very Nice' High School Boyfriend To Madonna's Daughter
Madonna's daughter, Lourdes Leon said in April 2021 that he and Chalamet "were a little item" back in high school. "I respect him a lot," she said. "My first boyfriend — or anything." They started dating in 2013 when Leon was around 17 and the Lady Bird actor was 18. Back then, Page Six reported that the Queen of Pop was protective of her daughter and had bodyguards chaperone the young couple for a low-key dinner.
Around that time, Madonna had also told Extra that her daughter had a "very nice boyfriend." When asked if it was the young actor, she said, "I don't know." Chalamet hasn't said much about his relationship with Leon. He's also known for keeping his personal life extremely private. In 2017, when Andy Cohen asked him about that night he was spotted on a chaperoned date with Leon in 2013, he just said: "I usually don't talk about this stuff, but that was a good night."
