When Married...With Children fans found out about the reboot of the popular series, it took a while for them to get used to the fact that it’s coming back in a completely different format. Viewers are wondering how Al, Peg, Kelly and Bud will look as animated versions of themselves.
Knowing that their favorite characters will be voiced by the actors who made them famous in the Fox sitcom has helped fans to readjust to the news about the different style.
Even though they won’t be seeing the actors, they’re looking forward to reconnecting with them in some way.
'Bud Bundy' Didn't Have As Many Roles As His Former Co-Stars
Since the demise of the sitcom, the actors have kept busy, and fans have watched them step into other projects. But while three of them have maintained a high profile, David Faustino, who played Bud, hasn’t.
Ed O’Neill played misogynistic dad, Al Bundy. He appeared in a number of series after MWC ended, but the best known of these is when he stepped back into the spotlight as another famous father, playing patriarch Jay Pritchett on the award-winning sitcom, Modern Family.
Katey Sagal moved on from playing disinterested mom Peggy to a number of other Mom roles. In addition to appearing as Steven Hyde's mother on That ‘70’s Show, she also played the mom on 8 Simple Rules.
She wasn’t only a sitcom mom, though: She was lauded for her portrayal of Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax Teller's mother, on the crime drama series Sons of Anarchy.
Applegate played the role of Al and Peggy's promiscuous daughter, Kelly. Just 15 at the time, she already had a number of movie and TV credits, and Applegate's CV has grown hugely since the sitcom ended. Major roles in movies like Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, The Sweetest Thing, View From The Top and Anchorman have cemented her star status.
On TV, Applegate has starred in series like Jesse and Samantha Who? She's also hosted Saturday Night Live and won an Emmy for her guest role on Friends, when she played Rachel's sister.
She was also one of the founding members of the Pussycat Dolls in 1995.
Whatever Happened To 'Bud Bundy,' David Faustino?
Given the amount of high profile work the other three actors who played the Bundy family members have added to their CV’s since the Fox series ended, fans have been asking why the youngest Bundy has been so quiet.
The last time audiences saw Faustino as Bud, he was playing a young adult who constantly irritated his on-screen dad, Al. So fans can be forgiven for being shocked when they realize he’s now 48, and a dad himself.
In 2015, he and long-time partner Lindsay Bronson became the proud parents of Ava Marie Grace.
Faustino joined the cast of Married ...With Children when he was 13 and was 22 when it ended. Fans will be happy to learn that Faustino has continued to work in entertainment in the two decades since the Fox series wrapped.
Although he hasn't had lead roles, he's had guest spots on shows like Modern Family, Bones, and The Bernie Mac Show, and fans have seen him in Bad Samaritans, Sharknado 4, and The Young and the Restless.
In addition, he's also created his own work. He developed and starred in a web series for Crackle, in which he played an over-the-top version of himself. Described as "a very twisted take" on his experiences in Hollywood, his series Star-ving saw cameo appearances from all three of his main Married…with Children co-stars.
Unfortunately, the series was short-lived.
Faustino Has Other Industry Experience, Too
MWC fans will remember that Bud's character was into Hip Hop and Rap, creating a persona called Grandmaster B. It was an element drawn from the actor’s real life. While working on the sitcom, Faustino moonlighted as an influencer in L.A.'s Hip Hop scene.
As host at a West Hollywood nightclub, he attracted future superstars like Easy-E and Fergie, who later gained worldwide fame with The Black Eyed Peas. Faustino actually helped introduce the world to will.i.am.
He still regularly works as a celebrity DJ, spinning discs at major events.
The actor has also performed as a rap artist himself, first known as 'Lil D and later under the name 'Lil Gweed. Plus, for a time, he ran a music label called Old Scratch Records and still hosts the Old Scratch Radio Hour for Dash Radio.
He’s The Most Experienced Voice Actor Amongst The Cast
Faustino may have taken a backseat to his former co-stars in terms of on-screen work. But given that the reboot features only the actors’ voices, he's actually the best qualified for the job amongst the MWC cast.
Since the sitcom ended, it’s in the voice market where the actor has made his mark.Since saying goodbye to MWC in 1997, Faustino has spent much of his time behind the microphone, voicing characters on animated series like Batman Beyond and Johnny Bravo with Seth MacFarlane.
He also used his voice talents for the character of Mako in both the video game and TV series The Legend of Korra.
And fans have heard him as Dagur in Netflix's Dragons: Race to the Edge. Step up to the microphone, Mr. Faustino.
While Faustino is the most experienced voice actor, the rest of the MWC cast are also confident about their voice skills. They’ve all had experience in the field.
Ed O’Neil played the role of the curmudgeonly Octopus Hank in Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo
Katey Sagal has lent her vocal talents to one of the strongest female characters in animation, sci-fi warrior, Leela from the futuristic series Futurama, which is also seeing a revival in the near future.
And Christina Applegate provided the speaking voice for Brittany in the CGI/live-action films Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Together, they're a formidable team, and it's good to know they'll be reuniting, and that Faustino will be part of the new production.
Fans can’t wait to hear them.
