With that in mind, some people may be confused by the revelation that one of the show’s main characters was inspired by Jason Sudeikis’ current girlfriend. After all, Sudeikis only began dating Keeley Hazell in 2021 according to whosdatedwho.com.
As it turns out, Keeley Hazell had such an impact on Jason Sudeikis that she inspired the Ted Lasso character Keeley Jones when they were still only friends. Of course, that is assuming that whosdatedwho.com’s timeline of their relationship is accurate. The reason that it is known that Hazell inspired the popular Ted Lasso isn’t strictly due to the fact that they share the same name. Instead, it is because Keeley’s actor Juno Temple told ET that Hazell inspired her character during a 2021 interview.
After Juno Temple was asked about her Ted Lasso character and Keeley Hazell, she made things pretty clear. "She is a [friend] of Jason [Sudeikis'] that inspired some of Keeley's character. She was an inspiration for the part."
In an interesting twist, even though Keeley Hazell doesn’t star in Ted Lasso, she was hired to play a romantic rival of the character she inspired. At the end of Ted Lasso’s first season, the character Jamie Tartt gets involved with a new character named Bex who was brought to life by Hazell. Aware of the amusing nature of the casting, Hazell commented on the situation with an August 2020 Instagram post. “meet ‘Keeley,’ sorry, sorry, I meant ‘Bex’”
