Whoopi Goldberg has been in the entertainment industry for decades. She’s done everything from stand-up comedy to appearing in iconic films such as Ghost with Patrick Swayze. After years of not landing new roles, Whoopi’s career got right back on track when she was asked to replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View.
Ever since she joined The View, Whoopi’s life and career have changed for the best. But her run on this popular talk show has been filled with controversial moments, like the time she got into a screaming match with Rosie O’Donnell. Most recently, Whoopi shocked fans by walking out of the set of The View after a heated debate about Miranda Lambert’s controversial concert video.
Whoopi Goldberg’s Most Controversial Moments On The View
In 2007, Barbara Walters announced that actress Whoopi Goldberg would be replacing Rosie O'Donnell as a moderator on The View. Now, the entertainment has been on this talk show for 16 years! Here’s a look back at some of Whoopi’s most controversial moments on The View:
There’s the time when Whoopi didn’t hold back after an audience member called her ‘an old broad.’ "Did you just call me an ‘old broad’?”, the host ask the audience member.
“Hey, it’s Wednesday, and I am an old broad, and happy about it." There’s also the time she defended Mel Gibson against claims of racism. The host said she was skeptical about labeling the actor a racist after "having spent time with him in [her] house with [her] kids." The star's words sparked rebuttal amongst her co-hosts, with Joy Behar saying, "Well that language certainly sounds racist to me."
And let’s not forget the time Whoopi and the other hosts on The View slammed Lana del Rey for being late to her Glastonbury set. The host argued that the singer should personally give attendees "$20 back on [their] ticket" for being so late to her concert.
It’s not clear how much longer Whoopi Golberg will be on The View, but fans are hoping her time on the show doesn’t come to an end yet. After all, the comedian’s comments and reactions make the show way more entertaining. Given that her contract nets her $5 million for each season on The View, she’s probably not thinking of leaving the show.
Miranda Lambert Scolded Fans For Taking A Selfie Mid-Concert
Earlier this month, country singer Miranda Lambert went viral for a video that shows her scolding a group of fans for taking photos during a concert at her Velvet Rodeo residency in Las Vegas. The singer paused after only a few notes into her hit song ‘Tin Man,’ to call out the fans.
"I'm gonna stop right here for a second.… These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song. It's p---ing me off a little bit," the singer told the audience.
"I don't like it, at all," Lambert continued. "We're here to hear some country music tonight, I'm singing some country damn music." The singer then told the group of concertgoers to sit down before starting the song from the beginning.
Lambert’s actions sparked mixed reactions from her fans. During the concert, many fans were cheering for her, but many others also left the arena in protest. Online, fans are also divided over the singer’s actions. But to many, this is just another proof that Lambert is what fans call a “mean girl.” After all, this is not the first time the singer acts entitled towards fans. In another concert, Lambert destroyed a fan’s beach ball mid-concert simply because it was thrown onto the stage.
Whoopi Goldberg Walked Out Of The View During A Heated Debate About Miranda Lambert
Miranda Lambert’s controversial actions became one of the Hot Topics on The View last week. Upon seeing the controversial video, the hosts started a rather heated debate. Sunny Hostin condemned Lambert’s actions, saying that she's "going to take as many selfies as I want if I paid $757 for tickets." This prompted Whoopi Goldberg to respond.
"You know what? Stay home," the Oscar-winning actress told the audience. "If you're going to spend $750 to come to my concert, then give me the respect of watching me while I do my thing, or don't come." Hostin then said that she, like those fans, likes to keep memories from concerts, and photos and videos are a great way to do it. In response, Goldberg got up from her moderator seat and said, "Turn on the television, girl."
"I'm leaving y'all!" Goldberg announced while making her way to the first row of seats in the studio audience. "I want to take a picture with this marvelous woman, who is 91. So, we're going to do a selfie. Just me and you," Goldberg said while approaching the woman.
"Will you push that button? We'll be right back." While this was just a stunt to further prove her point, fans noted that this is not the first time Whoopi walks out of The View. Before, the actress and host Joy Behar walked out of their interview with Bill O’Reilly.
