Michael Jackson is one of the most talented musicians of all time. With so many great songs, incredible vocals, and iconic dance moves, it’s no wonder that this singer was branded the kind of pop. Despite his successful music career, the tabloids often paid more attention to the many scandals the pop star got involved in before his death in 2009.

Back in 2002, the King of Pop received plenty of criticism after dangling his newborn son over a hotel railing in Berlin. Years after this event, Michael Jackson finally revealed why he decided this was a good idea at the time.

Michael Jackson’s Baby-Dangling Incident Was Heavily Criticized By The Media

In 2002, Michael Jackson visited Berlin to accept an award Thursday for his philanthropic work on behalf of children, a lifetime Bambi entertainment award.

During his stay, the pop star dangled his nine-month-old son, nicknamed “Blanket” because his face was covered with a towel, over the balcony of the hotel he was staying in.

It seemed that what the King of Pop was trying to do was show his baby to the fans that had gathered outside his hotel. But the public’s response was (obviously) completely opposite from what Jackson had expected.

As soon as photos and videos of the incident were released to the public, the media started criticizing Jackson’s parenting skills and reckless behavior.

Michael Jackson Admitted He Was Wrong And Did So Out Of Excitement

In response to public outrage over the incident, Jackson was expected to issue an apology.

He admitted that dangling his son over the balcony of the hotel he was staying in was a huge mistake and that he only did this because he was excited about his fans meeting his newborn son.

"I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children,"the king of pop told BBC News.

It’s clear that the pop star learned from this mistake because he never did anything similar and, instead, put a lot of effort into keeping his children out of the spotlight.

Nowadays, “Blanket” Jackson Prefers To Live A Normal Life Out Of The Spotlight

The child involved in the incident was Michael Jackson’s youngest son, Prince Michael II. Nicknamed “Blanket” after these events, the King of Pop’s son decided to change his name to Bigi in 2015, but it's unclear whether that was a legal change or just a nickname change.

Unlike his sister, Paris Jackson, who has a successful modeling career and has even followed her father’s footsteps and tried her luck in the music industry, Bigi Jackson prefers to live a more private and normal life. The 19-year-old decided to attend college and isn't very active on social media, but he recently appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about climate change.

“I do think it’s important that we all know about it,” Bigi said about climate change. “I think we have some work to do but our generation knows how important it is," Blanket said about climate change.

He would also discuss his dad's legacy living on in the household.

"There’s a lot of history in this house and the studio here,” Bigi told GMB. “That’s what he was all about. That’s what each of us want to do and make things that people can enjoy and hopefully benefit their lives.”

Cleary, Bigi Jackson is living a different live these days, trying to do his best for the environment while honoring his late dad.
