These days, Miranda Cosgrove is reigniting her acting career with the reboot of 'iCarly,' and fans are already thrilled. But years ago, when she was mid-'iCarly,' Miranda was actually angling to segue into singing.

Fans will recall that she recorded a few songs, including tracks for the Nickelodeon show. But then, nothing.

While fans are thrilled that Miranda is back for the grown-up version of their favorite childhood show, they still want to know -- why did she stop singing?

Miranda Cosgrove Left Acting For School

It's true that Miranda did stop acting to go to college. The star pursued a psychology degree (after starting out in film), and fans didn't hear from her for a while. Still, Miranda did some voice acting gigs (in the 'Despicable Me' franchise, for example) and was Hollywood-adjacent for a while.

It was surprising to learn that she'd reprise her role as Carly on 'iCarly,' but it was a good kind of surprise. Less happy was the event that set off her leaving her post-acting career path of professional singing.

Miranda's Musical Dreams Were Cut Short

In 2011, Miranda was on her way to make her musical dreams come true -- literally. She was on the road, on a tour bus, for her 'Dancing Crazy' tour. After the title track from the album took off (Avril Lavigne wrote it!), Miranda was in high demand, and she had just signed a contract with Sony Music, too.

Unfortunately, the tour didn't ever come to fruition, because a bus accident stopped the whole thing. As sources later reported, the tour bus came up on an overturned semi in the road, and the bus driver hit it head-on. Though the bus driver sustained the worst injuries, Miranda, who had been sleeping on a couch near the front of the bus, injured her foot.

Shortly after, the tour was canceled and Miranda and her mom (whose injuries were primarily bruises and being 'banged up') went home.

Sony Music Dumped Miranda, Ending Her Music Trajectory

In 2014, TMZ claimed that Miranda was suing the two drivers involved in the crash for lost income from the canceled tour and other opportunities. But that's not the whole story of why Miranda stopped singing.

Multiple sources report that Sony Music dumped Miranda Cosgrove from their label because her canceled tour essentially meant less money for them. Instead of riding the momentum of her chart-topping song through a lucrative tour, Sony had to start from scratch after she recovered from her injury.

Their decision, apparently, meant saving their own behinds and ruining Miranda's dreams of being a singer. She also lost a deal with Neutrogena to become one of their spokesmodels, though it's unclear exactly why they revoked their invite.

Cosgrove did have to spend time recovering from her foot injury, and that could explain the brand's change of heart; timing can be everything in Hollywood. Even though Miranda made millions from 'iCarly,' she lost the opportunity to achieve the same with her music.
