Considering that the tabloids can only survive if they have fresh celebrity gossip to report on all of the time, it certainly seems like they should go through a lot of lean times. After all, most people’s lives are pretty unremarkable a lot of the time and since celebrities are human beings just like the rest of us, that should be the case with them too. However, celebrity couples break up all of the time which gives the tabloids constant content fodder. Worse yet, even though some stars who’ve gotten divorced remain close with their ex, a lot of celebrity divorces have been extremely costly and nasty.
Ever since Heidi Klum and Seal became a couple, there have been a lot of people who were fascinated by the gorgeous couples’ relationship. In fact, even after Klum and Seal went their separate ways following their divorce, many members of the media have continued to be interested in the former couple. With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that there were some dramatic headlines about Seal and Klum’s divorce. With that in mind, it begs an obvious question, how nasty did Seal and Klum’s divorce actually get?
Heidi Klum And Seal’s Divorce Seemed Difficult For Everyone Involved
During Heidi Klum and Seal’s marriage, the couple notably renewed their vows annually and they brought up the four kids together. On top of that, Seal and Klum infamously hosted an incredible Halloween costume party every year and they both always wore amazingly elaborate costumes. With all of that in mind, it took most people by surprise when it was announced that Klum and Seal were divorcing.
Unfortunately for everyone, getting a divorce often is a long and painful process during which things tend to be very tense for obvious reasons. With that in mind, it makes sense that when rumors arose that Heidi Klum was dating her bodyguard before her divorce was finalized and a TMZ reporter asked him about it, Seal seemed upset.
"That's what happens when two people separate, they move on and generally meet other people in their lives. Whilst I didn't expect anything better from him [the bodyguard], I would of thought that Heidi would have shown a little more class and at least waited until we separated first before deciding to fornicate with the help, as it were." After Seal’s remark was widely reported on, his representative put out a statement that the singer wasn’t claiming that Klum was a cheater. Instead, "he was pointing out that they are separated and the divorce is not final so they are legally still married."
On top of the headlines that the singer’s remark garnered, the court battle that took place during Seal and Heidi Klum’s divorce was no laughing matter. After all, Klum sought primary custody while Seal wanted equal time with their kids. On top of that, when Seal used personal photos with their kids for an ad campaign without her permission, Klum had a lawyer get the video removed. Finally, Seal contested Klum’s contention that the couple didn’t have any shared assets when they went their separate ways.
The Nastiness Of Heidi Klum And Seal’s Divorce Is Overstated
When people look back on Heidi Klum and Seal’s marriage and divorce, it is clear that there were some very hard times. After all, since their divorce was finalized Klum has revealed the dark side of her marriage to Seal. For example, Klum has said she felt alone during the marriage and that Seal had a volatile temper which made her afraid for their kids. In fairness to Seal, it is important to note that he doesn’t agree with Klum’s portrayal of his temper.
For his part, Seal has also taken some swipes at Heidi Klum since their divorce was finalized. For example, in 2021 Seal stated that Klum doesn’t make co-parenting easy. “It can be challenging. It requires teamwork. If you are a team, if both parents are a team, then it's really easy and that's not a real challenge at all… But you have to be a team. And if you're not a team, then it can all fall to pieces.” “I never had that teamwork [with Heidi]. We never had teamwork.”
Despite what Seal said about co-parenting with Heidi Klum, that doesn’t mean that everything he has said about his ex-wife following their divorce has been nasty. For example, while talking to Larry King, Seal called Klum a “great mother”.
Of course, it should go without saying that nobody wants their ex-spouse to go around saying negative things about them. However, the reality of life is that after most marriages end, there are a lot of hurt feelings which is why people often have extremely negative things to say about their ex-spouse. On top of that, some divorces take years to play out with both parties making progressively nasty claims about each other. With all of that in mind, it is pretty clear that Seal and Heidi Klum’s divorce got rough at times but it wasn’t that much nastier than what most people go through when their marriage ends. The only difference is that Klum and Seal are both famous so the press covered every negative thing they had to say during their divorce endlessly.
