Despite Jeremy Renner's rise to fame thanks to his role as Hawkeye in the MCU, he seemed to garner more public interest for his miraculous recovery following an early 2023 snow plow accident. Amid all the heartwarming headlines about Jeremy's work-in-progress recovery (he broke dozens of bones in the incident), it seems some people have never really liked him, despite his rise in Hollywood, and they might have a good reason for it.

From his tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Sonni Pacheco to how he acts, some people have never really liked Jeremy, going so far as to say they "hate his face." Others who recently stumbled upon new information are beginning to share the same opinion.

When Jeremy Renner made headlines for his tragic snowplow accident, people were immediately sympathetic. Here was a well-liked Marvel star, who has appeared in numerous movies as an Avenger, who was injured while trying to save someone else (his nephew, an onlooker) from being run over by his errant snowplow.

In a recap of the incident, CNN reported that the Pistenbully snowplow had begun sliding down a hill, so Renner jumped out. When he realized the plow was headed toward his nephew, he tried to climb back in (by getting onto the vehicle's treads) to stop it.

Two surgeries and more than 30 broken bones later, people hailed Jeremy as a hero. His celebrity co-stars posted their support on social media, and Renner seemed to have his family all around him as he worked on recovering.

But in a long-abandoned Reddit thread about then-up-and-coming star Jeremy Renner, people had different thoughts about the Marvel star.

Not Everyone Loves Jeremy Renner, And Some "Hate His Face"

Redditors originally flocked to the forum site around 2014 to discuss Jeremy Renner, with a poster saying that they simply didn't like him but posing the question "But why don't I like him?!"

A lively discussion ensued, which involved people flatly saying Renner was a "boring" actor who lacked charisma, whereas others suggested that lack of charisma only made him seem talentless.

A few commenters did try to defend Jeremy, suggesting that he's "pretty versatile" despite being cast in similar roles that require him to be a bit of a jerk on screen. Others weren't buying it, though.

One comment suggested "he's just a smarmy dude or at least gives that impression," whether that was his actual personality or not.

Another response to the original poster's question was deadpan: "I feel the same and the only conclusion I can come to is that I hate his face." A final, now-dated comment said there was just "something" off about Renner, but they couldn't put a finger on it.

Of course, over time, things shifted.

In 2022, new comments cropped up on the Jeremy Renner diss thread, with people who were searching for the same answers the original poster was. It turned out that some folks' gut feelings, they proposed, were actually spot-on.

One commenter pointed out that the court documents between Jeremy and his ex-wife Sonni suggested that the actor "is an absolute monster." Calling Jeremy's face "extremely punchable," the commenter also alleged that Jeremy dabbles in illicit substances and that it shows in his face.

In a different Reddit discussion, on the topic of skipping films because of an actor viewers hate, similar sentiments came up regarding Renner.

Commenters called him boring but also delved into his relationship with his ex-wife. One said he was "abusive toward his ex-wife. He's nuts," and reminded fellow commenters that Renner has thrown around derogatory terms for minorities in the past.

Many publications reported on Renner's off-color comments at the time (in 2012), noting that he stated it was in poor taste to use the N-word, but then he used it twice in the same interview.

The final complaint against Jeremy Renner was his now-failed app, which commenters perceived as an entirely egotistical move. The app tanked following its release, but remains a joke for people who dislike Jeremy and "hate his face."

The worst part of the app, said Redditors, was that it was essentially a money-making scheme (not that the millionaire really needs it) in which Renner's followers were encouraged to purchase 'tokens' to connect with him, but said tokens didn't do anything except get Renner more money.

What Is Jeremy Renner Really Like?

Jeremy Renner has had plenty of bad public behavior over the years, but people seem divided over whether he's really a jerk in person. Most of the people who say they dislike him admitted to not really having a reason to until they learned a few key things about him.

It could be argued that it was confirmation bias in those cases, because no one is perfect, and zeroing in on an actor's mistakes makes them easier to hate.

But looking at the statements Jeremy's ex-wife made against him, many critics believe Sonni Pacheco and think that Jeremy's rise to fame should have been cut off a long time ago.
