Season 8 of Bachelor In Paradise began on September 27, 2022. Since the first episode, this season has been just as advertised: dramatic. Between love triangles, enemies reuniting, and betrayal, things have gotten pretty intense. However, not everyone has been involved in the drama; in fact, some formed relationships quite early.
Teddi Wright is one of the girls from this season of BIP that coupled up with someone shortly after arriving on the beach. Teddi formed a relationship with Andrew Spencer, who is a contestant from Katie's season of The Bachelorette. On the most recent episode of Paradise, though, Teddi abruptly decided to end things with Andrew, and then leave the beach altogether. It left everyone confused, and some fans are claiming that more had to be going on behind the scenes. 7 Who Is Teddi?
Teddi Wright was on Clayton's season of The Bachelor, but was eliminated in week 7. After joining the franchise for season 26 of The Bachelor, she soon became a fan-favorite. She's 25, her hometown is Redlands, California, and she works as a surgical unit nurse.
Her description on ABC says, "Though Teddi grew up in a strict Christian household, she lives by her own rules and has no interest in settling just to settle. Teddi is all about that instant connection and is looking for someone who won't be intimidated when she asks hard-hitting questions on the first date. While she is all about forming deep connections, Teddi also wants a man who can have fun with her and who won't be afraid to join her for a late-night skinny dip! Teddi is ready for the real thing and just wants to share her heart with someone who truly deserves it."
6 What Was Her Relationship Like With Andrew?
During the first episode of Bachelor In Paradise, Andrew Spencer was given a date card, and he asked Teddi on the date, which she accepted. Both admitted that they had been excited to meet each other prior to getting on the beach, and after having a good time on the date, the two seemed to couple up. They spent most of their time together and neither one pursued anyone else. It seemed as if their relationship was going really well.
In the most recent episode of BIP, though, we learned that Teddi was having some reservations about Andrew. While she admitted that he was a great guy, she just felt like something was missing. With so many relationships that end up going badly due to someone not being there for the right reasons, it was surprising to watch one of the strong ones face obstacles, too.
5 How Did Things End For Teddi?
Shortly after Teddi talked about some hesitations in her relationship with Andrew, Rodney Matthews showed up on the beach with a date card. Rodney was someone that Teddi had an interest in meeting, and it appeared that he had an interest in meeting her as well. He pulled her aside to talk once he got there.
After talking with Rodney, Teddi went to tell Andrew how she was feeling, and that's when she broke things off with him. Andrew was crushed, saying that he still had feelings for her but didn't want to force anything. It was clear that the split was hard on Teddi as well.
Things then started to get a little more confusing as fans watched Teddi tell producers that she wanted to go home, and she didn't want to tell anyone that she was leaving. There's even a clip of her talking to a producer, saying something along the lines of, "I know you want me to stay, but I just can't do that."
4 What Was The Reaction When She Left The Show?
Teddi did as she wanted and left the show without telling anyone. Serene eventually went looking for Teddi, but was informed by Wells, the bartender, that Teddi had gone home. This left everyone confused, especially some of Teddi's closest friends and Andrew. Rodney then came back down to join the group, asking where Teddi was. It appeared as though he was going to ask her to join him on the date, but he was informed that she had left the show.
3 What Are The Fans Saying About It?
Everyone was immediately confused. Right after the episode aired, fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions, saying that things must have been going on behind the scenes that caused Teddi to leave. It seemed odd that she would leave in such an abrupt manner without telling anyone, and even more suspicious that it coincided with Rodney's appearance on the beach.
Some criticized her decision to quit without telling anyone, calling the move dramatic. However, some fans thought something else was at play, and pointing to other things that didn't seem right, like the fact that Teddi hasn't promoted the show at all on her personal Instagram account, not even to post her headshot.
2 How Has Teddi Responded?
After the episode aired, Teddi posted an Instagram photo of her with the caption saying that she was proud of herself for "leaving environments that are cruel to me & the people around me" and "sticking to my boundaries no matter how many times people in authority try to cross them."
This made Bachelor Nation even more suspicious, with some drawing the conclusion that production was trying to force Teddi into something that made her uncomfortable. Some speculate that producers were pushing Teddi to stay with Andrew, while others think Rodney was brought down in order to create some drama.
Some former Bachelor stars commented on Teddi's post in support of her, including Jade Roper, Kendall Long, and Blake Horstmann. We might never know, but her recent Instagram post seems to point to something else going on.
1 Have The Producers Been Known To Push Contestants Into Relationships?
It's been commonly understood throughout Bachelor Nation that producers tend to push leads or contestants to act in a certain way in order to stir up drama. On the last season of The Bachelor, fans speculated that producers wanted Clayton to keep Shanae Ankney around for more episodes than he originally planned. When Matt James was the bachelor, fans also speculated that producers pushed him into keeping Victoria Larson around for longer.
However, despite all of the speculation, there has been no formal confirmation of producer manipulation occurring behind the scenes. We do know that fans want the franchise to make some changes though. Unfortunately, what happened with Teddi on this season is probably about as close as we'll get to really knowing how much of a role the producers play in the relationships on the show.
