2022 has been quite an eventful year for Netflix so far. The streaming platform has introduced some new, original TV shows, such as the semi-improvised murder mystery drama Murderville, as well as Vikings: Valhalla, a spin-off of the popular History Channel period adventure drama.

As well as the brand-new shows, some old hits have also returned, including Ozark and Stranger Things, as well as reality series such as Love is Blind and Too Hot to Handle.

Among some of the new scripted programs was Shonda Rhimes' Inventing Anna, the first show that the prolific creator has made in almost a decade. The nine-episode season dropped on Netflix in February, and fans who enjoyed it are wondering whether there will be a second.

9 What Is The Premise Of Inventing Anna?

According to IMDb, Inventing Anna is the story of "a journalist with a lot to prove [who] investigates the case of Anna Delvey, [an] Instagram-legendary German heiress who [steals] the hearts of New York's social scene - and their money as well."

The season is broken down into nine episodes, lasting anywhere between 59 and 82 minutes each.

8 Is Inventing Anna Based On A True Story?

Inventing Anna was in fact borne out of a New York Times article by journalist Jessica Pressley, titled How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People. The article delved into the true story of Anna Sorokin, a Russian-born German con artist who was arrested and convicted for grand larceny and theft of services.

Ozark star Julia Garner played the leading role in Inventing Anna, having met the real-life Anna in person beforehand.

7 Inside Anna Sorokin's Actual Life Today

Following her conviction in 2019, Anna Sorokin was handed a sentence of four to 12 years in prison. Having overstayed her visa, however, she is currently due for deportation back to her native Germany.

It has not been all doom and gloom for the 31-year-old, however, as she was paid a decent sum of $320,000 by Netflix for the rights to her story. Most of that money is said to have been used for fines and restitution, however.

6 Who Else Is On The Cast Of Inventing Anna'?

Julia Garner headlines Inventing Anna in the most accurately portrayed character on the show, but she is joined by other notable talents on the cast as well. Katie Lowes plays Rachel Williams, a friend of Anna who worked for Vanity Fair, before the German conned her of $62,000.

Anna Chlumsky portrays Vivian Kent, the equivalent of the real-life Jessica Pressley. Other cast members include Arian Moayed, Alexis Floyd and Laverne Cox.

5 Did Julia Garner Change Her Accent For Inventing Anna?

One of the standout elements of Julia Garner's performance in Inventing Anna is the bizarre accent she uses to embody Anna Sorokin. She admitted that she had to put in a lot of work learning various accents and dialects to come up with the final product.

Sorokin herself said that hearing Garner talking as her made her wonder whether she usually sounded "that insufferable."

4 What Has Been The Critics And Fan Reaction To Inventing Anna?

The one indisputable consensus from fans and critics about Inventing Anna is that Julia Garner's performance was impeccable. Other than that, most of the reviews on the show have been mixed at best, with questions being asked about its tone, structure and pacing.

3 Has Inventing Anna Won Any Awards?

Inventing Anna has so far been nominated for just one award: "Best Show" at the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2022, due to take place this weekend. The show is up against heavy hitters like Squid Game, Euphoria, and Ted Lasso for the accolade.

There is still time for the series to make it on the nominees list for the Primetime Emmy Awards, scheduled for September 12, and the next Golden Globe Awards, likely to be held in January 2023.

2 Will Netflix Be Renewing Inventing Anna For A Second Season?

When Netflix and Sundance acquired the rights to the Anna Sorokin story in 2018, the goal was always to make it into a limited series. That is exactly how things transpired, with the nine episodes covering the entire story as was in the Jessica Pressley article.

Unless Anna's real-life story has more dramatic twists and turns to come, there doesn't seem to be much room to take Inventing Anna into a second season.
