For many, IMDb has become the template for judging which are the best and worst movies and television shows that we could check into. Before we check a movie or show out, we usually look to the ratings on IMDb to decide if they're worth watching. In an era where we spend most of our time binging TV shows, which are the worst series out there?
Diving into IMDb's Lowest Rated TV Shows, we look at the bottom 10 one by one and try to figure out what made these shows bad enough to receive such appallingly low ratings on the website.
10 The High Fructose Adventures Of Annoying Orange– 2
The Annoying Orange character– simply an orange with a face whose entire job is to be as viscerally annoying as possible– is one which originated on YouTube and its popularity as one of the most subscribed channels on the platform eventually caught the attention of Cartoon Network.
They seemed to want to take cues from Nickelodeon who that same year (in 2012) gave a show to YouTube's then-most subscribed YouTuber (more on him later). Needless to say, the show disappointed with two stars on IMDb and only two seasons to speak of.
9 Paris Hilton's My New BFF– 2
When Paris Hilton found herself beefing with Simple Life bestie Nicole Richie, she was in need of a new Best Friend Forever. Thankfully, MTV came knocking on her door with the idea of a competition series featuring 16 women and three men competing for the chance to be her new BFF.
While the show may have conceived greater success than expected, as it stretched across two seasons and some international spinoffs, it was not very well received with only two stars on IMDb and bad reviews galore.
8 A Little Late With Lilly Singh– 1.7
Like plenty of the characters and actors on this list, Lilly Singh afforded her success from being a YouTube personality. Last year, she was approached by NBC to get her own late night talk show to replace Last Call with Carson Daly when he left for the Today show. Thus, Late Night with Lilly Singh was born and has been going strong since September.
Well, maybe "going strong" is a strong phrase. Her reviews on IMDb certainly aren't strong as most complaints tend to poke at her being awkward or cringey for making repetitive jokes. Still, at over 100 episodes in under a year, it doesn't look like she's going anywhere anytime soon. Lucky us, right?
7 Selena– 2
If you have never heard of Selena, that's likely because it was only ever broadcast in Turkey. Airing between 2006 and 2009, the show focused on its title character, a young woman who was not as human as she appeared and could only trust her secret with three other young girls as she's interlocked in the crosshairs of Hades. Yes, that Hades.
Strange premise for a strange show that seemingly may have been just a little too strange for the Turkish viewing public who were none too pleased to see it.
6 My Super Sweet 16– 1.8
Anyone who grew up on MTV in their childhood and saw their early-mid 2000's reality TV show block should remember My Super Sweet 16. This show dominated the channel's daily schedule from 2005 until 2009 and even saw a brief revival in 2017 (not including a 2015 one-off special focusing on the 16th birthday party for Lil Wayne's daughter).
For all of the show's longevity and nostalgic memories, most audiences hated seeing spoiled teens whine and complain to their parents about their $50,000 birthday car not having the exact paint job they wanted. This was a recurring thing for every episode.
5 Toddlers And Tiaras– 1.8
The premise of Toddlers and Tiaras should be self explanatory from the title. It all focuses on the world of child beauty pageants. The show lasted seven seasons on the TLC network. Judging by most of the reviews on IMDb, fans grew tired of watching the children's mothers go on a backstage tirade every week.
Other concerns spur from critics deeming the very idea of child beauty pageants to be creepy and immoral. Such concerns were enough for the series to earn its 1.8 rating on the site.
4 Fred– 1.7
This one might be cheating since Fred was a YouTube show rather than an actual television broadcast, but it's listed on IMDb among TV's worst shows (and YouTube does produce its own TV series now.) If the era of Fred somehow passed you by, just know that he was popular among pre-teen audiences thanks to his high pitched voice and hyperactivity.
Either those pre-teens never got a say in these IMDb reviews, or they grew up into adults who hated Fred's schtick. Either way, the YouTuber's schtick in question received a 1.7 rating.
3 Fred The Show– 1.7
The only thing worse than giving Fred his own YouTube show was giving him an actual television spinoff on Nickelodeon. Well, maybe not worse per say as Fred the Show matches his YouTube show's 1.7 rating,
Thankfully for the central actor playing Fred, Nick was just the right station to broadcast his antics. In addition to his own official TV show, the Fred character spawned an additional three TV movies. There was even a crossover once where he reprised the role for that aforementioned Annoying Orange.
2 Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi– 1.6
Over the course of eight years and 1,834 episodes, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi centered around a mother in law as she struggled trying to put up with her three bahus (sisters in Urdu). Shenanigans ensue when the sisters find themselves meddling in the relationships of their adult sons.
Looking at the 1.6 rating, not too many people were pleased with the show. Many critics complained about the show's need to time jump, replace characters with different actors (often with plastic surgery for the characters, apparently) at a moment's notice, and introducing unrealistic storylines.
1 Jóban Rosszban– 1.3
And ranking in at the top (or bottom, technically) spot is Jóban rosszban (which translates to "For Better or Worse"), a soap opera taking place within a small town in Budapest that has been on the air for thousands of episodes and counting ever since 2005.
Out of four formal reviews for this show on IMDb, only one of the reviews gives a positive rating while 1,478 people gave enough poor ratings to give the series a 1.4 out of 10. If the show's been on the air for 15 years and counting, could it really be this bad?
