When it was announced that The Big Bang theory was going to receive a spin-off, it is very safe to say that millions of viewers were extremely excited. However, everyone knows that there is an extremely long history of extremely popular TV shows spawning spin-offs that were complete and utter failures.

When Young Sheldon was announced, most people wanted to see how good of a job the show’s producers would do casting the series’ titular character. Thankfully for everyone involved, a young actor named Iain Armitage was discovered and he turned out to be the perfect person to portray a young version of Sheldon.

On top of finding Iain Armitage, Young Sheldon’s producers needed to cast the right actors to surround him with. Fortunately, all of the show’s stars turned out to be perfect for their roles. On top of that, Young Sheldon features a slew of talented actors in recurring roles, including Isabel May, Wallace Shawn, Reba McEntire, and Craig T. Nelson. Cast as a love interest for Sheldon’s older brother Georgie, Isabel May was an entertaining addition to the show’s cast. However, since it is early in May’s career, a lot of people don’t know much about her.

Discovering Her Future

Most of the time when kids say which career they want to have once they grow up, everyone around them don’t take them very seriously. After all, the vast majority of them will choose a different path once they become adults. In the case of Isabel May, however, it turns out she was on to something from the very start as she spoke about wanting to be an actor from a young age.

Once Isabel May became a teenager, she may have had other ideas for her future until her English teacher came through for her in a big way. While talking to Terrior Magazine, May revealed the noteworthy way a single teacher forever changed her life.

“I was an avid reader, at a young age, completely engrossed in fictional worlds. I love to write, as most actors do, they find other ways to express themselves, and my English teacher pulled my parents to the side in sixth grade, and said you gotta get her doing something else, cos she has to express this in some way.”

Her Big Break

After Isabel May’s English teacher encouraged her parents to find an artistic outlet for their teenager, it didn’t take long for them to realize that acting was the way to go. As a result, May’s parents found their daughter an acting agent and switched her to online schooling so that she could concentrate on her new career plan.

Even though Isabel May and her parents went all-in on her acting aspirations, for a long time it seemed like betting on her new path was a mistake. After all, May spent three years auditioning for roles without booking a single gig. On the bright side, May has since said that all of that rejection helped her to become a better actor since it toughened her up. Plus, May is far from the only person to have difficulties during the audition process. In fact, some major stars initially thought they completely flopped while auditioning for the role that made them famous.

Thankfully for Isabel May, everything changed for her when she auditioned for one of the starring roles in the Netflix show Alexa & Katie. Cast as one of the two titular characters, May seemed to be born to play Katie Copper. After all, May’s Alexa & Katie character was there for her best friend as she battled cancer and in real life, Isabel supported one of her pals when they were diagnosed with lymphoma. On top of that, even though May has said that she doesn’t think she is funny, Isabel makes Alexa & Katie fans laugh all of the time.

Young Sheldon And More

During the second season’s sixth episode, Young Sheldon fans were introduced to Georgie Cooper’s love interest, Veronica Duncan. Simply awesome in the role, May managed to make Duncan one of Young Sheldon’s most nuanced characters by far. After all, the character often had a gruff exterior and came off as wise beyond her years but she also could be a sweetheart. Unfortunately, after appearing in nine Young Sheldon episodes over two seasons, May has disappeared from the show despite the fact that a lot of fans want her to return.

Even though Isabel May hasn’t appeared during a Young Sheldon episode for quite a while, that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been working hard. After all, May starred in Alexa & Katie until the show’s finale aired in 2020. On top of that, May starred in the 2020 movie Run Hide Fight and her role in that film clearly was physically demanding for the young actor. May is also set to star in an upcoming movie called The Moon & Back.
